Analysis Cubes Overview

Analysis Cubes, part of the Vision Performance Management module, provides you with a Vision project data cube and a general ledger data cube from which you can create custom Vision reports and performance dashboards.

  • Project Cube — This cube contains project, labor, expense, billed, plan, accounts receivable, and time analysis data.

  • General Ledger Cube — This cube contains financial and general ledger data.

The Analysis Cubes application runs in the background; you do not access it directly. It uses Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology. You must refresh the data cubes on a regular basis so that current Vision data is included in your custom reports and dashboards.

With Vision data cubes, you can create Vision custom reports with Microsoft® Excel® 2007, Excel 2010, or other report writing software that supports SQL Server Analysis Services OLAP cubes, a component of Microsoft® SQL Server™.

  • Analysis Cubes and Security
    The Analysis Cubes application uses Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services security rather than Vision security. With SQL Server Analysis Services security, you set up permissions by role or by user to define who can access information. You can restrict access to a data cube, measure groups, or specific measures within a measure group.

    Vision data cubes must be refreshed (updated with current data from the Vision transactional database) on a regular basis. By default, the refresh process occurs automatically every night at midnight. A Vision system administrator can modify the time that the automatic refresh occurs or perform additional refreshes on demand using with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Custom Reports and Multiple Languages
    Vision supports the creation of data cubes in English (United States) and English (International) languages if you purchase the Vision Multilingual module. A system administrator creates separate Vision data cubes for different languages.
  • Vision OLAP Data Cubes
    Vision Analysis Cubes and Microsoft SQL Server use OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) technology to provide Vision reporting databases—data cubes, which are subsets of the Vision transactional database.
  • Custom Reports and Analysis Cubes
    With Analysis Cubes, you can create Vision custom reports with Microsoft® Excel® 2007 or other report writing software that uses Microsoft Analysis Services, a component of Microsoft® SQL Server™.
