Generate Configuration Package Utility
Use the Generate Configuration Package utility to generate Connect for Microsoft Outlook configuration packages. Configuration packages are XML files that contain information about how Connect for Microsoft Outlook Edition is configured.
Configuration packages contain security rights, field and object labels, and information on the placement of fields in Outlook.
After making changes to items in the configuration package, the administrator can generate a new configuration package that is deployed to Connect for Microsoft Outlook users. When this utility is run, the current configuration packages are overwritten with new packages. Upon synchronization, Connect for Microsoft Outlook automatically detects the new package and applies the changes.
When the administrator changes any of the following, configuration packages must be manually generated to view the change in Connect for Microsoft Outlook:
- The natural key for an object changes in Connect for Microsoft Outlook Configuration.
- Changes are made to attributes of fields via the Screen Designer:
- Visibility
- Read-only
- Label
- Required
- A synchronized object’s tab security changes in Security Roles. Because Connect for Microsoft Outlook does not have tabs, tab security is treated like field security.
- Auto-numbering has been changed in the following manner for
clients, opportunities, and
vendors:
- The administrator has changed the Allow user to override auto number check box.
- The administrator has enabled or disabled auto-numbering.
- A system wide label has changed.
- A key conversion is run for a record that is synchronized with Connect for Microsoft Outlook.
