Reschedule Plan Dates in the Projects Hub

Use the Reschedule Plan Dates dialog box to shift or change the duration of the plan date range.

To change plan dates, display the Reschedule Plan Dates dialog box from the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, and Units tabs of the Plan form. Alternatively, you can change plan dates by using the Gantt chart on the Schedule tab. For more information, see Shift Dates on a Gantt Chart or Change Durations on a Gantt Chart.

When you reschedule plan dates, you can also indicate how you want the new schedule to affect the distribution of planned hours, amounts, and units.

After you complete the rescheduling process, you can, if necessary, make changes to the individual hour, amount, and quantity distribution on the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, and Units tabs of the Plan form in the Projects hub to get them exactly the way you want them. You can also change individual labor hour distributions on the Resource View or Project View form in Resource Management.

To reschedule plan dates in the Projects hub:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Projects > Plan.
  2. On the Plan form, select the project for which you want to reschedule plan dates.
  3. On the Actions bar, click Check Out.
  4. Go to the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, or Units tab.
  5. Expand the plan work breakdown structure (WBS) to display the plan row for which you want to change plan dates.
  6. In a WBS element row, do either of the following to display the Reschedule Plan Dates dialog box:
    • In the Plan Start or Plan End field, select a new start or end date.
    • At the end of the row, click and then Reschedule.
  7. On the Reschedule Plan Dates dialog box, select one of the following options:
    • To push the plan date range forward or backward but keep the same number of working days between the start and end dates, select Shift. This option also keeps the same distribution pattern for planned hours, amounts, and units.
    • To lengthen or shorten the plan date range, select Change Duration.
  8. If you selected Change Duration, select one of the following options:
    • To spread the affected planned amounts evenly on all child assignments whose date range changes, select Redistribute Evenly on Changed Assignments.
    • To keep the current distribution of planned amounts across work days and calendar periods, select Don't Redistribute.
  9. If you selected Shift and want to shift only a part of the current date range, you can change one or both of the dates in the From This Plan Date Range field.
If you do not change these dates, the entire date range is shifted.
  10. In the To This Plan Date Range fields, enter or select the new plan date range for the plan row.

If you selected the Shift option, select either a new start date or a new end date. Vantagepoint determines the other date, while keeping the same number of working days in the range.

If you selected the Change Duration option, select both the start and end dates for the range.

  11. If you are rescheduling plan dates and selected the Change Duration option, and you want to change the plan dates or assignment dates for all the child rows to match the new plan dates for the parent row, select the Replace All Child Dates with New Parent Dates checkbox.
  12. To complete the rescheduling process, click Reschedule.
If either of the following scenarios exist, Vantagepoint displays a warning message before you can continue the reschedule process.
    • If planned labor hours, expense or consultant amounts, and/or unit quantities exist before or after the current plan dates, Vantagepoint warns that the plan dates will be updated for the selected WBS level along with any affected parent levels.
    • If the level you are updating is also predecessor in a dependency relationship or has a parent or child that is a predecessor and there will be changes to other levels (in a different branch) based on the existing dependencies, Vantagepoint warns that the plan dates will be updated for this level along with any affected parent or child levels. Additionally, since this level, a parent level, or a child level has dependency relationships, successors will shift based on their relationship.
