Export Planning Data to a Comma-Separated Values (.csv) File

On the Planning Data Export form, you can export project planning data for labor, expenses, consultants, and units into a comma-separated values (.csv) file.

To access the Planning Data Export utility, FileStream must be enabled for your database. You must also have access to the project plan data that you want to export.

If changes have been made to a plan but have not been published, Vantagepoint exports the unpublished version of the plan.

To export planning data to a .csv file:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Utilities > Imports & Exports > Planning Data Export.
  2. On the Planning Data Export form, click Planning Data.
  3. On the Export Planning Data dialog box, use the drop-down list in the Projects field to select the project for which you want to export planning data. To select multiple records, click Search.
  4. Select the planning data that you want to export for the selected projects: Labor Assignments, Expenses and Consultants, and/or Unit Assignments.
  5. If you selected Labor Assignments and/or Unit Assignments, use the Timescale option to export plan data by day, week, or month.
If you selected Expenses and Consultants, the Timescale option displays only if at least one company in your database can plan expenses and/or consultants in calendar periods.
  6. Click Next.
The dialog boxes that display depend on the planning types that you selected to export. For example, if you are exporting planning data for labor and unit assignments, the Export Labor Assignments dialog box displays before the Export Unit Assignments dialog box.
  7. Select the planning data columns that you want to include in the comma-separated values (.csv) file.
The .csv file automatically includes the plan work breakdown structure (WBS) IDs and names for each plan row. If Vantagepoint is set up to use labor codes, labor code IDs and descriptions are also included automatically in the labor assignments export if a plan includes assignments at that level. If you do not want some of the WBS data included, you can later delete those columns from the .csv file.
  8. To include column headers in the file, select the Include headers checkbox.
  9. Click Export.
If, for example, you are exporting both labor and unit planning data, the Export Unit Assignments dialog box displays next. Repeat steps 7 - 9 for that data set.

If you have selected and exported all data, Vantagepoint closes the dialog box and adds a link for each new .csv file to the export list on the Planning Data Export form.

  10. To view the exported data, click the .csv export files on the Planning Data Export form.
