Display the Add Units Dialog Box

Display this dialog box from the Units tab of the Plan form in the Projects hub.

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Projects > Plan.
  2. On the Plan form, select the project for which you want to assign units.
  3. On the Actions bar, click Check Out.
  4. Click the Units tab.
  5. Expand the work breakdown structure (WBS) to display the lowest-level WBS element to which you want to assign units.

You can assign units only at the lowest levels of the WBS. For example, if the lowest level of a branch of the WBS is the phase level, you can assign units only to phases for that WBS branch.

You can add unit assignments to active or inactive levels of the WBS. You cannot add new assignments for any dormant element or any elements under it in the WBS.

  6. Hover over the row of the WBS element to which you want to add the assignment and do either of the following:
    • Click next to the WBS element name.
    • Click at the end of the row for the WBS element and click Add Units.

The Add Units dialog box displays and then the Units Lookup dialog box displays over it.

  7. On the Units Lookup dialog box, choose the unit that you want to assign and then click Select. You can select units from active unit tables.

If there is a default unit table assigned to the lowest WBS element of the project in the Projects hub, the Units Lookup dialog box automatically displays the units in the default unit table. If necessary, you can use the search field to remove the filter and see other available units.

If you use multiple companies in Vantagepoint, you can select units from unit tables if the unit table's company, through its associated organization, matches the organization assigned to the lowest WBS element.

  8. On the Add Units dialog box, do any of the following:
    • To assign one or more units to the WBS element, click in the Unit Name field of a blank row or click + Add Units below the grid.
    • To select a different account for a unit, click in the Account field.
  9. When you have selected all the units that you want to assign to the WBS element, click Save.

If all the assignments are valid, the dialog box closes, the units are added to the plan, and rows display for them in the grid on the Units tab so you can enter planned quantities.

A given WBS element cannot have more than one unit assignment with the same combination of unit number, unit table, and account. If the assignments to be saved include any duplicate assignments, all valid assignments are saved, but the Add Units dialog box remains open with the duplicates displayed. You can then change a duplicate to make it valid, delete it from the grid, or click Cancel to discard all the duplicates and close the dialog box.
