Circular Dependency Not Allowed Error Dialog Box

This dialog displays when you try to create a relationship that would cause a circular dependency with existing relationships.

If you try to create a new dependency in which a relationship level would have a dependency on itself, this causes a circular dependency, which is not allowed. This situation can occur with just two levels or with multiple levels. The disallowed relationships display in red text on the Create Dependency dialog box. The Circular Dependency Not Allowed error dialog box displays so you can review a list of the relationships that caused the problem:
  • Attempted Relationship: This is the new relationship that you are trying to create. If the existing relationships cannot be changed, you must remove or modify this relationship.
  • Conflicting Relationship: These are the existing relationships that contribute to or lead up to the circular dependency. If the new attempted relationship is required, you must remove or modify one or more of these relationships.

On the Dependency Details dialog box, review the predecessor, successor, and relationship type for all relationships and remove or modify them as needed and click Apply. If circular dependencies still exist, the Circular Dependency Not Allowed dialog box will display again.
