Reschedule Assignment Dates in a Project Plan

Use the Reschedule Assignments dialog box to shift or change the duration of assignment date ranges in a plan.

When you reschedule assignment dates, you can also indicate how you want the schedule change to affect the distribution of planned hours, amounts, and units.

To reschedule assignment dates in a project plan:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Projects > Plan.
  2. On the Plan form, select the project for which you want to reschedule assignment dates.
  3. On the Actions bar, click Check Out.
  4. On the Labor, Expenses, Consultants, or Units tab, expand the plan work breakdown structure (WBS) to display the row for which you want to change assignment dates.
  5. In an assignment row, do one of the following to display the Reschedule Assignments dialog box:
    • In the Assignment Start or Assignment End field, enter a new start or end date.
    • At the end of the row, click and then Reschedule.
  6. On the Reschedule Assignments dialog box, select one of the following:
    • To push the assignment date range forward or backward but keep the same number of working days between the start and end dates, select Shift. This option also keeps the same distribution pattern for planned values.
    • To lengthen or shorten the assignment date range, select Change Duration.

If you are changing the duration of expense or consultant assignment dates and do not plan expenses or consultants in calendar periods, Vantagepoint automatically distributes planned amounts to the new date range when you select this option.

  7. If you select Change Duration, select one of the following options:
    • If you are rescheduling labor assignment dates and want to spread the affected planned labor hours and amounts evenly over the new date range, select the Distribute Labor Hours and Amounts Evenly. To keep the current distribution of planned hours and amounts, select Don't Redistribute Labor Hours and Amounts.
    • If you plan expenses or consultants in calendar periods and want to spread the affected planned amounts evenly over the new date range, select Distribute Amounts Evenly. To keep the current distribution of planned amounts, select Don't Redistribute Amounts.
    • If you are rescheduling unit assignment dates and want to spread the affected planned unit quantities and amounts evenly over the new date range, select Distribute Quantity and Amounts Evenly. To keep the current distribution of planned unit quantities and amounts, select Don't Redistribute Quantity and Amounts.
  8. If you select the Shift option and want to shift only a part of the current date range, you can change one or both of the dates in the From This Assignment Date Range field.
If you do not change these dates, the entire date range is shifted.
  9. In the To This Assignment Date Range fields, enter or select the new assignment date range for the plan row.
If you select the Shift option, select either a new start date or a new end date. Vantagepoint determines the other date, while keeping the same number of working days in the range.

If you select the Change Duration option, select both the start date and end dates for the range.

  10. To start the rescheduling process, click Reschedule.
If the new assignment dates are outside of the plan date range, Vantagepoint displays a confirmation prompt asking if you want to update the plan dates to include the new assignment date ranges.
