When you create a search, you have the option to save it so you can use it in the future without specifying the search parameters again. For example, you could create and save searches that return your underutilized resources, resources with a particular skill, or resources assigned to the projects that you manage.

To select a set of resources to review or assign to projects:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Resource Management > Resource View.
  2. If the Find Resources pane is not visible to the left of the grid, click in the upper-left corner of the page to display it.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To use a saved search provided with Vantagepoint or to use one of your saved searched without making changes to it, select the search in Saved Searches. Continue with step 7.
    • To modify a previously saved search, select the search in Saved Searches and select the search on the drop-down list. Continue with step 4.
    • To create a new search, continue with step 4.
  4. To select resources by name, use Select Resources to select one or more individual resources.
You can also enter one or more characters to search for resources with names that include those characters. When you select individual resources, you must select them one at a time, but you can select as many as you want.

Select Resources and the set of search fields under Find Resources function independently of each other. If you select specific resources in Select Resources and you also select search criteria under Find Resources, the search joins those two sets of criteria using an OR conjunction and returns resources that satisfy either set of criteria.

  5. To search for resources by type, do one of the following in Resource Type:
    • Leave the field blank to include both employees and generic resources in the search.
    • Click Employees Only to include only employees in the search.
    • Click Generic Resources Only to include only generic resources in the search. If you choose Generic Resources Only, some other fields in the pane are disabled.
  6. Use the other fields in the Find Resources pane to enter filter values to further restrict the list of resources that the search returns.
If you enter search parameters and then decide that you want to clear all of them and start over, click x Clear All at the bottom of the pane.

If Set details displays below a field, you can click that link to specify related attributes (one or more skill levels when searching for resources based on a skill, for example) to further refine the search results.

Vantagepoint provides a default set of fields in the Find Resources pane. However, if you want to search based on values in additional fields, you can click + Add Field at the bottom of the panel to add a field to the pane.

  7. To perform the search without saving it, click Search.
The resources returned by the search display in the grid.
  8. To save the search so that you can use it again in the future, click Save and then complete the following actions on the Save Options dialog box to specify how you want to save the search:
    1. Select Save to update an existing search or select Save as New Search to save a new search. Vantagepoint adds the search to the designated section in the Saved Searches list.
    2. In the Name field, enter a name for the search.
    3. To allow other users access to this search, click in the Save For field.
This field is only available if your role has the required security rights. Depending on your search security rights, you can save for others assigned to the same role, for other specific roles, of for all security roles (everyone). If you do not have the security rights to save for others, then you can only save personal searches for yourself.
    4. Click Save.
  9. If you need to perform additional searches to assemble the group of resources that you want:
    1. In the Resource View grid, select the checkbox next to each resource in the search results for which you want to review or enter planning information.
    2. Click Pin Selected on the toolbar.
Vantagepoint saves the group of pinned resources so you can retrieve them later.
    3. Repeat steps 3 through 8 to perform another search and pin additional resources.
    4. When you have pinned all the resources that you want, click Pinned on the toolbar and then click Show in Grid on the Pinned dialog box to display the full group of pinned resources in the Resource View grid.
