Activity Types

Use activity types to categorize and manage activities and to determine where activities of a certain type display in Vantagepoint.

Examples of activity types are meetings, tasks, phone calls, touchpoints, and other business functions. You specify an activity's type in the Type field when you create the activity record. A touchpoint is a streamlined activity that has fewer fields in order to quickly add a note to a hub record. These are added via the Actions menu in several of the hubs.

You set up user-defined activity types in the Activity Type list in Settings > Labels and Lists > Labels. Click to add other activity entries to the list settings. System-provided activity types also appear in the Activity Type list, which you cannot change or delete. Select where the activity should display in the list settings as well. Options are Activities Hub only, Calendar or Task.

Activity Types and Their Display Settings

An activity type has a display setting associated with it in the Display field on the Activity Type Settings dialog box for the Activity Type list in the Lists Settings. The display options — Calendar, Task, or Activities Hub Only — determine where the type of activity displays in Vantagepoint after you create the activity. The display setting does not affect where you can create different types of activities. Wherever you can create activities in Vantagepoint, you can create an activity type.

Activities with a type that has a display setting of Calendar appear in the calendar when you select Views > Events. Activities with a type that has a display of Task appears in the calendar when you select Views > Task. Activities with a type that has a display of Activities Hub Only do not appear in the Calendar at all. Examples of Activities Hub Only activities are email messages, mailings, and touchpoints.

All activities are included in the Activities Hub and Activities grids throughout the system regardless of the type.

You select a display setting for the user-defined activity types that you create, but not for system-provided activity types. You can change the label of system-provided types, but you cannot delete them from the list because they are used by the system.

The system-provided activity types and their display settings on the Activity Type Settings dialog box are as follows:

System-Provided Activity Type Display Setting
Email Activities Hub Only
Mailing Activities Hub Only
Meeting Calendar
Event Calendar
Create Document Activities Hub Only
Phone Call Calendar
Task Task
Touchpoint Activities Hub Only
