When you create a search, you have the option to save it so you can use it in the future without having to specify the search parameters again. For example, you could create and save searches that return your underutilized resources, resources with a particular skill, or resources assigned to the
projects that you manage.
A saved search is only available to the person who saves it. Other users cannot select it.
To select a set of resources to review or assign to projects:
-
In the Navigation pane, select
.
-
If the Find Resources pane is not visible to the left of the grid, click
in the upper-left corner of the page to display it.
-
Do one of the following:
- To use a saved search provided with
Vantagepoint or to use one of your saved searched without making changes to it, select the search in
Saved Searches. Continue with step 7.
- To modify a previously saved search, select the search in
Saved Searches and select the search on the drop-down list. Continue with step 4.
- To create a new search, continue with step 4.
-
To select resources by name, use

When you select individual resources, you must select them one at a time, but you can select as many as you want.
Note that
Select Resources and the set of search fields under
Find Resources function independently of each other. If you select specific resources in
Select Resources and you also select search criteria under
Find Resources, the search joins those two sets of criteria using an OR conjunction and returns resources that satisfy either set of criteria.
-
To search for resources by type, do one of the following in
Resource Type:
- Leave the field blank to include both employees and generic resources in the search.
- Click
Employees Only to include only employees in the search.
- Click
Generic Resources Only to include only generic resources in the search. If you choose
Generic Resources Only, some other fields in the pane are disabled.
-
Use the other fields in the Find Resources pane to enter filter values to further restrict the list of resources that the search returns.
If you enter search parameters and then decide that you want to clear all of them and start over, click
x Clear All at the bottom of the pane.
If
Set details displays below a field, you can click that link to specify related attributes (one or more skill levels when searching for resources based on a skill, for example) to further refine the search results.
Vantagepoint provides a default set of fields in the Find Resources pane. However, if you want to search based on values in additional fields, you can click
+ Add Field at the bottom of the panel to add a field to the pane.
-
To perform the search without saving it, click
Search.
To save the search so you can use it again in the future and then perform the search, click
Save and do one of the following:
- If you did not select a saved search in
Saved Searches, the Save As dialog box displays. Enter a name for the search and click
Save.
- If you selected a saved search in
Saved Searches, both a
Save and a
Save As option display. If you want to update the selected search with your changes, click
Save. If you instead want to create a new saved search, click
Save As, enter a search name in the Saves As dialog box, and click
Save.
Result: The resources returned by the search display in the grid.
-

-
In the Resource View grid, select the check box next to each resource in the search results for which you want to review or enter planning information.
-
Click
Pin Selected on the toolbar.
Result:
Vantagepoint saves the group of pinned resources so you can retrieve them later.
-
Repeat steps 3 - 8 to perform another search and pin additional resources.
-
When you have pinned all resources you want, click
Pinned on the toolbar, and click
Show in Grid in the Pinned dialog box to display the full group of pinned resources in the Resource View grid.
