Process Type: Automatic or Manual Select

The process type determines the procedures that you use to complete payroll processing. You can have Vantagepoint select employees automatically or you can "manually" select one or more employees to include in the payroll run.

You set the Process Type field to Automatic or Manual on the New Payment Run form.

Automatic

Use the Automatic process type for a regular payroll processing run.

  • Automatic payroll processing lets you process payroll for all employees with unpaid hours on posted timesheets, or for a class of employees that you specify.
  • You can process all posted timesheets in an automatic payroll, or specify a range of dates and include only posted timesheets within that range. To specify a range of dates, your enterprise must first enable date ranges in Payroll Settings.
  • Although information in an automatic run is automatically selected, you control what is ultimately processed by setting selection criteria using the Auto Selection fields.
  • Because automatic payroll processing automatically schedules all employees with timesheet hours posted for the selected period, you should review employee data prior to processing payroll. This allows you to modify payroll data (for example, pay rates and withholdings) before making it a permanent part of the database.
  • You cannot include employee data with a zero pay rate in automatic payroll runs.

Manual Select

Use the Manual Select process type for Regular, Adjustments, or Bonus payroll processing runs.

  • Manual payment processing lets you process payroll for selected employees in the currently open posting run.
  • You can use manual selection to process payroll for one or more employees, while bypassing all other employees.
  • Manual selection differs from automatic processing because it allows you to process payroll for selected employees, only, and to choose the pay period for each of those employees. This is useful if an employee requires payment prior to the time that you process payroll for all other employees.
  • You can include employees with a zero pay rate in manual regular, bonus, and adjustment payroll processing runs. You cannot include these employees in an automatic payroll processing run. If you do process an employee with hours posted during this payroll time period and a zero pay rate, Vantagepoint processes a blank check for this employee.
