- Basics
If you are new to the Billing application, you may want to review checklists for processing bills and for setting up the application, see how Billing relates to other applications, and review security settings that apply to Billing. - Billing Groups
Create billing groups so that you can bill several projects together on a single invoice. This approach is useful if you have multiple projects for the same client and the client wants to receive one invoice for all projects. - Retainers
A retainer is an advance amount collected from a client before work begins on a project. The amount of the retainer is typically stipulated in the client's contract, and may be required for a variety of reasons. - Pre-Invoices
Use the Pre-Invoices feature to produce billing invoices that are "requests for payment," which are not recorded in the general ledger. - Processing Billing Invoices
Use the Billing application to process and generate invoices for your clients based on the labor, expenses, and fees charged to a project or group of projects. - Retainage
Retainage is a percentage of billing amounts contractually withheld on an invoice, which will be billed to the client at a future, pre-determined point in the project, usually upon the project’s completion or upon reaching a major milestone, as specified in the contract. - Approving Billing Invoices
Using an approval process for billing invoices is an optional feature in Vantagepoint. - Credit Memos
In Interactive Billing, you can create full or partial credit memos for posted invoices that were originally created in Interactive Billing or Batch Billing. - Voiding Invoices
You can void billing invoices that have been accepted for final billing. When you do so, you control whether or not the void process impacts the general ledger. - Deleting Invoices
Delete final billing invoices if you want to maintain a shorter list of invoices in the grid on the Invoice History tab in Interactive Billing. This can be helpful if you have a large number of invoices to manage. - Writing Off Bad Debt on Outstanding Invoices
There are four methods in Vantagepoint for writing off a bad debt on an outstanding invoice. The four methods reflect different philosophies, but have the same effect on company-wide profit or loss. Use these methods only when an outstanding invoice is involved, not unbilled revenue. - Updating Billed-to-Date Amounts
To adjust the actual billed-to-date amounts calculated by Vantagepoint for a project or projects, or to change prior fee billings on an invoice, you can manually update billed-to-date amounts. - Allocating Employee Realization
Use Employee Realization in Billing to allocate posted labor and units-related revenue to specific employees who work on a project. This allows you to measure the realization and contribution (profitability) of these employees. - Billing Reports
Preview or print Billing reports to monitor and analyze your enterprise's billing information.
