Using the Help Search
  • Phrase:Returns all topics that contain the exact phrase in the search criteria. Use quotation marks around the phrase.
    Ex."system administration"
  • And:Returns all topics that contain all the words in the search criteria, in any combination. Insert a plus sign between all words in the search criteria.
    Ex.system + administration
  • Or:Returns all topics with any combination of words in the search criteria. This is the default.

View Search Settings as Plain Text

Use the Plain Text feature to view a search's criteria in a readable format.

Prerequisites: Create a new search or open an existing search.

To view search settings as plain text:

  1. Click Advanced Settings to open the advanced options.
  2. Click Other Actions > View as Plain Text.
    A text box displays that contains a color-coded, indented version of the current search. You can view the entire search in readable format and see how nested levels of the search (based on parentheses) relate to each other.

    This option is not selected the next time that you click Search.
