Tax File Generation (Desktop)

Use Tax File Generation to produce files that contain tax reporting information.

The Tax File Generation feature displays on the Accounting menu in the desktop application only when you select the Enable Tax Auditing Feature option in the Tax Auditing Feature section of Settings > Cash Management > Options in the browser application.

On the Tax File Generation form in Accounting > Tax File Generation, you select a file format for the tax file that you want to produce and choose other options for generating the file.

Tax reports may use your company's address information, which is entered in Settings > General > Options in the browser application.

Tax reports may also use your company's tax registration number, which is entered in the Tax Auditing Feature section of Settings > Cash Management > Options in the browser application.

Belgium Tax Files

You can generate tax files in XML format for the following tax reports to send to the Belgium tax authorities:
  • Belgium - Intra EU Community: This is an annual report of the taxes that your enterprise has collected from sales to clients in other countries within the European Union (excluding Belgium). The report includes the invoice amount per client, per period.
  • Belgium Client Listing: This is an annual report of the total tax amount and total invoice amount for each tax registration number, for all your clients in Belgium.
  • Belgium VAT Declaration: This is a periodic value-added tax (VAT) declarations report. You must set up the appropriate box numbers (grid numbers) on the Tax Reporting tab in Settings > Cash Management > Tax Codes before using the Tax File Generation feature. For details, see Tax Reporting Tab of the Tax Codes Settings Form.

You create a tax file in Vantagepoint, save the file on your local or network drive, and then send the file to the Belgium tax authorities as you normally do.

You can also print a backup report that shows the detail that was used to create the contents of the XML files.

German ELSTER Tax Files

For each of your companies in Vantagepoint, you can generate a file for the monthly VAT tax return to submit through the German ELSTER (ELektronische STeuerERklärung) electronic transmission system. You generate a Transfer.ini file in Vantagepoint, save it on your local or network drive, and send it to the German tax authorities as you normally do.

UK Tax Files

You can generate a VAT tax file to submit to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The interaction between Vantagepoint and HMRC uses electronic API supplied by HMRC. You must set up the appropriate box numbers on the Tax Reporting tab in Settings > Cash Management > Tax Codes before using the Tax File Generation feature. For details, see Tax Reporting Tab of the Tax Codes Settings Form.

Before submitting your UK VAT return to HMRC you must obtain HMRC authorization to use Vantagepoint. You should know your HMRC username and password to obtain access to the HMRC site. To obtain the authorization to use Vantagepoint, see Obtain HMRC Authorization.
