Add a New Lead

A lead is a prospect contact or unqualified contact that you plan to cultivate to help your firm find new projects. As you begin the business development process, you can add a new lead in the Contacts hub without associating a firm or other records with the lead. You can also include leads in activities and marketing campaigns.

To add a new lead:

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Hubs > Contacts > Contacts.
  2. Click + Add Contact next to the contact search field to display the Add Contact form.
  3. Enter the lead's information. This may include an associated firm name and address, as well as a project name. You can enter the firm and project information directly on this form without creating records in the Firms or Projects hubs. Then, if you choose to qualify the lead, the firm and project information is applied when you create new records in those hubs.
  4. In Qualified Status, specify the contact's status.
A default status is established on the Defaults tab in My Preferences. For example, if the default status is set to New Lead, this indicates that all new contacts when entered will default to the "lead" phase without an associated firm or other records. As you work with a contact and your relationship evolves, you can change the status to one of the other settings, including:
    OptionDescription
New Lead The contact is a new lead, which is a contact with whom you would like to develop a relationship.
Qualify Contact Based on your firm's business rules, the contact is worth pursuing or is one with which you already have a relationship. When you save a newly qualified contact, the Qualify Contact dialog box displays. Use this dialog box to qualify the contact, and create a new firm or project record to associate with the contact. You can then associate the qualified contact with a marketing campaign.
Disqualify Contact The lead should not be pursued, so you opt to disqualify the contact. When you select this option, the Status Reason field displays and you must specify the reason for disqualification. The reasons that are available are defined by your administrator.
