Best Practices for Twilio Integration

Follow these best practices when integrating with Twilio SMS.

Best Practices

Field Description
Use Verified and Compliant Sender IDs
  • Always use Twilio-verified phone numbers or Messaging Service IDs to ensure message deliverability and compliance with carrier regulations.
  • For high-volume messaging, use Twilio's Programmable Messaging to organize your account and message logs into separate Messaging Services. See Twilio's Messaging Services Help for more information.
Secure and Manage Credentials
  • Store the Twilio Account SID and Auth Token securely.
  • Rotate credentials periodically and update them in Deltek Talent Management under System Settings > Notifications.

Enable Role-Based Access

Limit the Send a Text Message feature to only necessary user groups (e.g., Recruiters, Hiring Managers).

Test in a Controlled and Verified Environment

Be aware that trial accounts may have limitations (e.g., message restrictions, no real delivery without verified numbers).

Encourage users to review the message history in the Résumé Dashboard for each candidate. This log includes timestamps, sender/receiver info, and delivery status—useful for audits and troubleshooting.

Validate System Settings

Double-check the following in System Settings > Notifications.:

  • Twilio Account SID
  • Auth Token
  • Sender phone number or Messaging Service SID. The wrong values entered here is a common cause of integration errors.

Stay Informed on Compliance and Updates
  • Read Twilio and Deltek release notes and compliance updates.

  • Monitor changes in SMS regulations (e.g., A2P 10DLC in the U.S.) that may affect message delivery or sender registration.
