Set Up Security

The standard procedure for setting up security during implementation of Costpoint Analytics commonly involves the following basic steps:

  1. Import security-related information from Costpoint.

  2. Export selected security information to the security extraction Excel files.

  3. Copy the information from the security extraction files to the security setup Excel files.

  4. Edit the data in the security setup files to provide the users and user groups with the access that you want them to have.

  5. Use the security-related configuration options to activate security in Costpoint Analytics

  6. Run an update process to apply the access specified in the security setup files to Costpoint Analytics.

The procedure for setting up security differs depending on whether you installed Costpoint Analytics on your own on-premise server or you are accessing Costpoint Analytics installed on a Deltek Cloud Operations server.

Preparation

Before you begin the security setup process, we recommend that you do the following:

If You Have Capture Analytics

If your firm has Capture Analytics as well as Costpoint Analytics, it is important that you update the data models for Costpoint Analytics – Project security either before you update the data models for Costpoint – Employee and Capture Analytics or as part of the same update process.

Ideally, you should select security configuration options and prepare the security spreadsheets for all three modules, and then, when all three are prepared, do either of the following to update all data models in one process:

Project Manager Security

The procedures below do not include project manager security. If you are going to set up project manager security for some users, refer to Set Up and Maintain Project Manager Security.

Set Up Security for an On-Premise Installation by Importing Costpoint Security Information

Complete the following steps to set up organization security if you installed Costpoint Analytics on your own on-premise server and you want to import security information from Costpoint. If you do not want to import security information from Costpoint, see Set Up Security for On-Premise Installation Without Importing Costpoint Security Information.

If you instead are using Costpoint Analytics installed on a Deltek Cloud Operations server, use the procedure under Set Up Security for SaaS Installation.

Important: Before you begin this procedure, contact your network administrator to get the correct LDAP server name. In step 5 of this procedure, be sure that you enter the path to that LDAP server.

  1. Run the QlikView Management Console (Start » All Programs » Deltek Analytics » QlikView Management Console).

  2. Click the System tab and the Setup subtab.

  3. Expand Command Center, Directory Service Connectors, and DSC@<server name>.

  4. Click Active Directory, and click .

  5. Click next to the Path field.

Important: When you click , QlikView Management Console defaults in an LDAP server path. That path may not be correct. If not, enter the correct path. It is extremely important to have your network administrator verify the path. Security will not function properly if it not correct.

  1. In Username and Password, specify either a domain service account (recommended) or a valid domain-based user name and password.

  2. Click Apply.

  3. On the server on which you installed Costpoint Analytics, go to the <installation location>\Analytics\Setup folder.

  4. Run CpA_Import_Security_From_Costpoint.qvw.

  5. Click Full Load of User Groups and Users from Costpoint, and click OK in the confirmation message box.

When the process is complete, Costpoint Analytics displays a message to let you know that it is finished and to direct you to the next step of the process.

  1. Review the displayed Costpoint security information and determine which user groups you want to include in Costpoint Analytics security.

  2. Under Usergroups on the Imported Security Worksheets tab, select the check boxes for the Costpoint user groups that you want to include in Costpoint Analytics security.

Do not try to edit other security information on the Imported Security Worksheets tab. You can add, change, and delete information in Microsoft Excel later in this procedure.

  1. Click Export Worksheet Data to Excel File.

  2. When you receive a message indicating that the security data has been exported to Microsoft Excel, click OK.

  3. Open the OrgSecurityExtraction.xls file in Excel. The file is in the <installation location>\Analytics\Setup folder.

  4. Open the CostpointAnalyticsOrgSecuritySetup.xlsx file in Excel. The file is in the <installation location>\Analytics\Setup folder.

  5. Copy and paste the new security data from each of the three worksheets in the OrgSecurityExtraction.xls file into the corresponding worksheets in the CostpointAnalyticsOrgSecuritySetup.xlsx file.

  6. In the CostpointAnalyticsOrgSecuritySetup.xlsx file, set up complete access for the Costpoint Analytics system administrator and make sure that the NTNAME column for that user on the USER worksheet contains that person’s network user ID. The installation process automatically creates an ADMIN user group and ADMIN user that you can use, or you can set up a different user for the system administrator.

If you do not establish at least one user with full administrative access, when you activate security you could be locked out of files that you need to access.

  1. In the CostpointAnalyticsOrgSecuritySetup.xlsx file, make any necessary changes to the default access given to other user groups and users. You can also delete user groups and users, and add new user groups and users. Save your changes.

For more information on editing the access settings in the Excel file, see Specify Security Settings in the CostpointAnalyticsOrgSecuritySetup.xlsx File.

  1. On the server on which you installed Costpoint Analytics, go to the <installation location>/Admin folder.

  2. Run CpA_System_Config_Projects.qvw to open Costpoint Analytics – Project Configuration.

  3. Select the configuration options that activate Costpoint Analytics security and single sign on authentication for Costpoint Analytics – Project.

See Security (Project Analytics) and Single Sign On (Project Analytics) for more information.

  1. Run CpA_System_Config_Employees.qvw to open Costpoint Analytics – Employee Configuration.

  2. Select the configuration options that activate Costpoint Analytics security and single sign on authentication for Costpoint Analytics – Employee.

See Security (Employee Analytics), Single Sign On (Employee Analytics), and Security Type (Employee Analytics) for more information.

  1. Run the QlikView Management Console (Start » All Programs » Deltek Analytics » QlikView Management Console).

  2. Click the Documents tab.

  3. On the Source Documents tab, expand the items in the left pane until the Final folder is displayed. Expand that folder also.

  4. Expand Costpoint_Analytics_Employees.qvw, and do the following:

    1. Click the task.

    2. Click the Reload tab in the right pane.

    3. Select the Section access check box.

    4. In Username, enter DeltekAnalytics, and in Password, enter the password you assigned to that service account when you installed Costpoint Analytics.

    5. Click Apply.

  1. Repeat step 28 for the following:

Costpoint_Analytics_Projects.qvw

Costpoint_Analytics_Summary.qvw

CRM_Analytics.qvw (if you also installed Capture Analytics)

  1. Locate the Translate folder in the left pane, and expand that folder.

  2. Repeat the procedure in step 28 for the following:

Data_Model_Summary.qvw

Data_Model_Employee.qvw

Data_Model_Projects_Secured.qvw

Data_Model_CRM_Secured.qvw (if you also installed Capture Analytics)

  1. Load the security data into the Costpoint Analytics data models. You can wait for your next scheduled load process, or you can implement it immediately. See Update the Data Models Based on Security Settings.
