Manage Engineering Bills of Material

Use this screen to establish and maintain the hierarchical relationship of parts in an engineering design environment.

You can then copy the engineering bill of material (EBOM) to a manufacturing bill of material (MBOM) using the Copy Bills of Material screen in order to plan and control material operations. You can also copy an existing MBOM to an EBOM in order to make revisions in the design/engineering stage before releasing it back to manufacturing. You can access this screen only if you have selected the Use Engineering Bills of Material check box in the Configure Bills of Material Settings screen.

You can also use this screen to develop level-by-level EBOMs by specifying the assembly part and listing the components and related data for the first level for each row in the table window. After saving that assembly part's EBOM and refreshing this screen, enter the component part ID that was listed for the original assembly part in the Assembly Part field, and then enter the first-level components for each row in the table window. In this way, you can generate a multi-level EBOM (or subassemblies).

Note: A part (or part/revision combinations if multiple revisions are allowed) can have multiple components on its EBOM. You can also include a part as a component on one or more EBOMs. Also, the assembly part that is on one EBOM can be listed as a component on other EBOMs. A part can be a standard or provisional part (established in Costpoint Product Definition). You cannot list a provisional part on a released EBOM. You must convert it to a standard part in the Convert Provisional Parts To Standard Parts screen in Costpoint Product Definition before you can release the EBOM.

If you did not select the Use Separate EBOM Release Function check box in the Configure Bills of Materal Settings screen, you can maintain and release existing EBOMs on this screen (for example, adding new component lines and changing the setting in the Comp Rel Flag field). However, if you selected the Use Separate EBOM Release Function check box, you must use the Release Engineering Bills of Material screen to release existing EBOM assemblies and component line items. You can still add (not modify) new component lines to unreleased EBOMs on this screen. However, you can release them only on the Release Engineering Bills of Material screen.

Note: If you selected the Release Eng BOM check box on the Configure Engineering Change Notice Settings screen in Costpoint Engineering Change Notices, you can release EBOMs only on the Manage Engineering Change Notices screen. If you selected the Modify Released Eng BOM check box, you can modify released EBOMs only in the Manage Engineering Change Notices screen.

Upon entering this screen, you are prompted to select EBOMs you want to view and edit. Use the Engineering BOMs dialog box to search Costpoint for specific EBOMs by assembly part, revision, description, or BOM exist flag. If you search for a specific EBOM, this field displays in form view. If you use a wildcard to search for multiply EBOMs, this screen displays in table view. You can switch between the form and table view by clicking or .
