Current Pipeline Breakout Chart

The Current Pipeline Breakout chart compares the pipeline amounts by stage for each year, quarter, or month in the analysis period. Each segment in a stacked bar represents the pipeline amount for opportunities currently at that stage that have an analysis date within that year, quarter, or month.

You can also display this data in a line chart.

The default chart is a stacked bar chart, but you can use the Fast Change icon (fast_change_button.gif) in the chart title bar to display a line chart.

Chart Item

Description

Horizontal axis: calendar months, quarters, or years

The horizontal axis displays the range of calendar months, quarters, or years included in the analysis period. You can use the Cycle button (Basics_CycleButtonNoDownArrow.png) to cycle through the three period options.

Vertical axis: pipeline amounts

The vertical axis displays the range of pipeline amounts.

Stacked bars: pipeline amounts by stage or range

On the stacked bar chart, each bar represents the total pipeline amount for opportunities that have an analysis date within that month, quarter, or year.

By default, this chart displays bar segments for stages. However, you can use the Cycle button (Basics_CycleButtonNoDownArrow.png) above the legend to break out pipeline amounts by pipeline amount range or probability range.

Each segment in a stacked bar represents the pipeline amount for opportunities currently assigned to that stage or for opportunities with pipeline amounts or probabilities in that range.

Data points on chart lines: pipeline amounts by stage or range

On the line chart, each colored chart line represents a stage for which current pipeline exists for the analysis period.

By default, this chart displays chart lines for stages. However, you can use the Cycle button (Basics_CycleButtonNoDownArrow.png) above the legend to break out pipeline amounts by pipeline amount range or probability range.

Each data point on a chart line represents the pipeline amount for opportunities that are currently assigned to that stage or for opportunities with pipeline amounts or probabilities in that range, and that have an analysis date within that month, quarter, or year.

If the chart includes some stages with very large pipeline amounts and others with relatively small pipeline amounts, the bar layers or chart line data points may be difficult to see. If that occurs, either maximize the chart, or select only the specific stages you want to view so Capture Analytics can redisplay the chart with a more appropriate scale.

Chart Data

Data Item

Description

Total pipeline amounts for a period

The sum of unweighted or weighted pipeline amounts for all opportunities with an analysis date in the month, quarter, or year that each bar represents.

Stage pipeline amounts for a period

The sum of unweighted or weighted pipeline amounts for opportunities that are currently assigned to that stage and that have an analysis date in the month, quarter, or year.

Probability range pipeline amounts for a period

The sum of unweighted or weighted pipeline amounts for opportunities that have a probability within that range and that have an analysis date in the month, quarter, or year.

Pipeline amount range pipeline amounts for a period

The sum of unweighted or weighted pipeline amounts for opportunities that have a pipeline amount within that range and that have an analysis date in the month, quarter, or year.

For descriptions of the sources of the chart data, see Data Sources.

Example: Reading the Current Pipeline Breakout Chart

Your firm uses the estimated start date as the analysis date for the Current Pipeline Analytics. In November 2012, you view the Current Pipeline Breakout chart for 2013 and see that the total pipeline for the first quarter, based on the scale on the vertical axis, is between $20 million and $25 million.

That amount is broken down into pipeline for four stages, each represented by a colored segment in the bar. When you position the mouse pointer over each of the segments, you discover these pipeline amounts for each segment:

Stage

Amount

Qualification

5,000,000

Capture

4,300,000

Pursuit

1,000,000

Submitted

12,000,000

Thus, the total pipeline amount for Q1 2013 is 22,300,000. That amount is the sum of the pipeline amounts for opportunities with an estimated start date in Q1 2013.

The total pipeline amount for the Capture stage is 4,300,000, 19 percent of the total for the quarter. That amount is the sum of the pipeline amounts for opportunities that are assigned the Capture stage currently (that is, on the day in November 2012 that you view the chart).

Detail and Grouped Stages

If your firm has set up grouped stages for Capture Analytics, use the Detail and Grouped options to view pipeline data either for the original GovWin Capture Management opportunity stages (detail stages) or for the grouped stages. When you select the Grouped option, this chart displays pipeline amounts for the grouped stages instead of for the detail stages.

Stage Sequence

A Capture Analytics configuration setting controls the sequence of stage layers in the stacked bars. Your system administrator sets that sequence during implementation of Capture Analytics.

Pipeline Amounts

When your firm implements Capture Analytics, it can select two amount fields from opportunity records in GovWin Capture Management to analyze as pipeline. The options under Pipeline Amount enable you to apply the analytics to either of those two amounts. When you select one of the options, Capture Analytics displays pipeline amounts calculated from amounts in that field in the opportunity records.

The Unweighted and Weighted options under Pipeline Probability Weighting provide the additional option to display either unweighted pipeline amounts or weighted pipeline amounts (pipeline amounts with the probabilities applied).

Capture Analytics calculates the weighted pipeline amount for each opportunity as follows: Unweighted pipeline amount × (Probability ÷ 100).

Change Breakout from Stage to Pipeline Amount or Probability Range

By default, the Current Pipeline Breakout chart breaks out the total pipeline for a period by stage, but you also have the option to break out pipeline amounts by the following:

To change the breakout option, do either of the following:

Focus the Chart

To focus the chart on a particular set of data points, click and drag the mouse pointer over the chart so that the green selection area touches only the bars or chart line data points you want to include. Common_DropDown_Down.gifIllustration

To focus the chart on one or a few stages or ranges, do either of the following:

To focus the chart on a more restricted analysis period, do either of the following:

It is much easier to make selections on the chart itself if you first maximize the chart.

If you use any of the above actions to change the chart, Capture Analytics applies the same changes, as appropriate, to all other analytic objects.

Change the Horizontal Axis Periods

Use the Cycle button (Basics_CycleButtonNoDownArrow.png) to select any of the three analysis period options for the horizontal axis: Month, Quarter, and Year:

Display Data Point Information

To see the pipeline data for a specific stage and period or range and period, c segment in the bar or over that intersection of the vertical grid line and the chart line. When you do, Capture Analytics displays the month, quarter, or year, the stage or range, and the pipeline amount in a data box. Common_DropDown_Down.gifIllustration

It is much easier to position the mouse pointer over a narrow segment or a data point on a chart line if you first maximize the chart.
