About entering hours and rates for resources

Labor resources

When you enter hours for a labor resource, Ajera enters billing and cost rates for you as follows:

Only hours and no other columns

The average billing rate in Company > Preferences > Project tab

Multi-company only. The average billing rate in Company > Companies > Billing/Payroll tab

The average cost rate in Company > Preferences > Project tab

An employee in the Resource column

The billing rate table

Otherwise, it comes from Company > Preferences > Project tab

The employee’s cost rate

An employee type in the Type column

The billing rate table if it is set up with employee types

Otherwise, it comes from the average rate from the employee type setup, or Company > Preferences > Project tab.

The average cost rate for the employee type

If blank, it comes from Company > Preferences > Project tab.

An employee in the Resource column and an employee type in the Type column

The billing rate table if it is set up with rates for the employee or employee type or there are labor markup

The employee’s cost rate

Expense resources

When you enter hours or units for an expense resource, and you enter an activity in the Type column, Ajera enters billing and cost rates for you as follows:

A unit-based activity

The billing rate table if you set up a rate exception by activity

Otherwise, it comes from the activity setup.

You enter it.

Consultant resources

When you enter a consultant resource, and you enter a vendor type in the Type column or a vendor in the Resource column, the cost and billing rate columns are unavailable. If you enter a vendor and a cost amount, the contract amount comes from the billing rate table.
