Ribbons Group on the S2 // Diagnostics Tab

Use the commands in this group to perform such tasks as select and group fields, and view ribbon metric results in chart format.

Projects

Click this command to group activities by project or snapshot or use the drop-down menu to select or deselect single ribbon mode.

Field Description
Single Ribbon Mode Select this command to view all projects in the workbook on a single timeline. When you select or deselect this option, you will need to run the Fuse Analysis again. If this option is not selected, each project/snapshot in the workbook will display in its own timeline.

Fields

Field Description
Selected Field: <selected field> Select the field that you want to use to group the activities inside the ribbons. The fields are grouped into three sub-menus: General, Inputs, Outputs. The selected field displays after the field name.
Grouping Type
  • Discrete creates a separate ribbon for each different value when grouping by the activity field.
  • Number of Intervals makes each ribbon contain a range of values. Use the Number of Intervals submenu to control how many ribbons are created. You can request up to 20 ribbons. If the number of distinct values is less than the maximum number of ribbons, then there will be a ribbon for each value. If there are any null values, there will be a ribbon for null values.
    • If the selected field is a string, the activities are distributed roughly evenly across the ribbons. Set the number of ribbons to 4 for quartile ribbons or 10 for decile ribbons.
    • If the selected field is a number or a date, the minimum and maximum values define the range.

Dates are rounded to the nearest enclosing day, month or year.

Numbers are grouped to the nearest round numbers. For example, if the numbers are in the range from 0 to 99 and the number of ribbons is four, the ribbons will be called >= 0, > =25, >= 50 and >= 75. If the number of ribbons is five, the ribbons will be >= 0, >= 20, >= 40, >= 60, and >= 80.

  • Delimiter creates ribbons based on a period delimiter. This is useful when needing to create ribbons from a WBS or a hierarchical code field that uses delimiters to designate separation of sections (and level) within a hierarchy.
    • Number of Levels allows you to select a number between 1 and 10. The default setting is 7.
    • Show Hierarchy includes parents in the hierarchy as separate ribbons.

Resources

Click this command to group activities by resource.

Hierarchy

Select this option to create ribbons based on hierarchical structure. For Primavera, Open Plan, and MSP projects, this list includes all hierarchical codes from the imported project. For other project types, you can create ribbons at the WBS or Control Account/Work Package level.

Charts

Click this command to view the ribbon metric results in chart format or use the options in the drop-down menu to complete such tasks as select a chart type or display markers and legends.

Select a chart option then click the Charts command to display the chart. Click the Charts command again to switch back to the tabular view.

You can choose from the following chart types:
  • Area
  • Bar
  • Column
  • Line
  • Point
  • Stacked Area
  • Stacked Bar
  • Stacked Column
  • Stacked 100 Area
  • Stacked 100 Bar
  • Stacked 100 Column
In addition, you can select the following chart options:
  • Cumulative displays values in the chart as cumulative over time. For example, you have spent $100 in 2012 and $200 in 2013. When you chart those expenses with this option selected, the bars (for example) will show $100 for 2012 and $300 for 2013 ($100 + $200). If you chart those expenses without selecting this option, the chart will display $100 for 2012 and $200 for 2013.

This option is useful when displaying cost because you can see the total (cumulative) cost at the end of the chart.

  • Show Markers displays a dot on the chart wherever there is a number.
  • Show Legend displays the chart legend or key. This contains a list of the variables in the chart and allows you to identify items on the chart.
