Symbols Dialog Box
This dialog box enables you to manage the custom symbols that can be used in many Open Plan views.
The dialog box is divided into two panes: Shape Categories and Symbols.
Shape Categories
This pane of the dialog box contains a list of currently defined shape categories. The categories are an easy way to organize the numerous symbols included with Open Plan as well as custom symbols you might add. Selecting a category displays the symbols included in that category in the Symbols pane. Two special categories are also included:
- <All Shapes>: Selecting this category displays all the symbols available for use by Open Plan.
- <Uncategorized Shapes>: Selecting this category displays those shapes that have not been assigned to a category. The <Uncategorized Shapes> category does not appear if there are no uncategorized shapes in the system.
Symbols
This pane of the dialog box contains a list of the symbols that are currently available in the selected category. When you select a symbol from the list in the Symbols pane, it is displayed as a preview on the right side of the dialog box.
Resizing
In addition to using the grabber pad in the bottom right corner to resize the dialog box, you can also resize the Shape Categories and Symbols boxes. When you hover your cursor between the two boxes, your cursor changes to a slider bar. Click and hold your mouse button and drag left or right to resize the boxes.

The table below provides information about the buttons in this dialog box.
