Replanning Activities
Open Plan uses the Replan Activity feature to remove variances from any in-progress activities. Typically, a project manager opts for a replan when additional time or resources are required to successfully complete an activity.
Open Plan can automatically split a single activity into two activities (for example, A and B). One activity represents the completed portion, while the other represents the remaining work, effectively creating a new activity.
This option is enabled only when you have access rights to Replan Activity and the selected activity meets specific conditions as follows:
- It has no child activities.
- Its status is In Progress.
- Its Actual Start date is not blank.
- Its Actual Finish date is blank.
- It is not a foreign activity.
Replan Process
When you run the Replan Activity process, Open Plan sets the Actual Finish date of the original activity to the Split Date. Moreover, it calculates its Original Duration (in workdays based on the activity calendar) by subtracting the Actual Start date from Split Date. If the difference ( Split Date - Actual Start) exceeds the starting original duration, Open Plan generates a warning message in the system log, indicating that no changes occur to the original duration as the new duration ( Split Date - Actual Start) exceeds the original duration.
The duration of the new activity (split) is calculated by subtracting the new duration for the original activity from its original duration. If this duration is less than one day, Open Plan automatically sets it to one day, as defined by the minutes per day for the project. When this happens, Open Plan generates a warning message in the system log, indicating that the split activity duration has been set to one day because the new duration is below the one-day minimum threshold.
