Briefcase

Briefcasing is the ability to take a copy of a project stored in the central database and work on that copy remotely.

While a project is briefcased, other users are able to open the project only in Read Only mode. The database restricts access to the master copy to prevent changes being made, which would be lost when the remote copy is returned.

When you work on a briefcased copy of the project, you cannot create, modify, or delete external subprojects, foreign subprojects, or foreign activities.

When checking out a project to another data source, such as a laptop, reference copies of views and ancillary data are automatically taken. This enables you to work where and when you need to work.

The Briefcase folder displays the following information for projects that have been checked out:

  • Who has a project checked out (User ID)
  • The ID of the computer from which the project was checked out (Machine ID)
  • The date and time that the project was checked out (Checkout Date)
  • The data source into which the project was checked out (Data Source)
