Bottom and Top Variance Tables

The three Bottom variance tables on the Master Dashboard tab display the five structure elements with the largest negative schedule variances (SV), cost variances (CV), or variances at completion (VAC). The three Top variance tables display the five structure elements with the largest positive variances of each type.

Click next to the first column heading to select the structure level for which you want to display bottom and top variances. That structure level selection is also applied to the three charts at the bottom of the tab.

Table Format

The Bottom and Top variance tables are straight tables. However, unlike for most straight tables, the sort order is fixed for these tables.

Table Data

Each of the Bottom variance tables displays the five elements with the largest negative variance for one of the three variance types, as of the period selected in Period. The Top variance tables display the five elements with the largest positive variance for each of the variance types. The bottom and top five are selected from among those elements that satisfy the combination of filters that you apply to the analytics. In addition, each table displays performance and trend indicator columns for that variance type.

Note: If, for the candidate elements, there are not five that have negative variances, Bottom variance tables complete the list using elements with the smallest positive variances. Similarly, the Top variance tables include elements with the smallest negative variances if five elements with positive variances do not exist.

Column Description
Structure elements This column displays the bottom or top five elements for the selected structure and structure level. To focus your analysis, you can select one element or any set of elements that are listed together. To select a set of elements that are listed together, click and drag to make the selection. To select multiple elements that are not listed together, use the Unindented Elements list on the left side of the dashboard. Press CTRL as you click each element.

Click next to the first column heading to select the structure level for which you want to display top and bottom variances: any specific level of the structure, lowest level for each structure node, control account level, or work package level.

SV This column displays the cumulative or current schedule variance amount or schedule variance percentage for each element.
CV This column displays the cumulative or current cost variance amount or cost variance percentage for each element.
VAC This column displays either the variance at completion amount or variance at completion percentage for each element.
SV, CV, VAC (colored cells) These performance indicator columns display color-coded performance and trend information based on the selected period for schedule variance, cost variance, and variance at completion, respectively.

The colors and arrows are determined by the change threshold settings that your wInsight system administrator establishes for each contract in wInsight. The colors indicate cumulative or current performance based on the thresholds, and the arrows indicate if that performance represents a significant positive or negative trend, compared to the prior period.

A legend at the bottom of the tab displays the thresholds.
