Sorting Widget

The Sorting widget lets you add and order how your report columns are sorted. Any column with sorting added either from the widget or by clicking the up or down arrows at the top of a column displays in the widget. You drag and drop sorted columns in the widget to re-order your sorting.

You access the Sorting widget on the Tools Report Action menu (Tools >> Sorting).

Field Description
Widget ToolbarWidget Toolbar At the top of every widget are three action icons:
  • Details:Expands a panel with information about how to use the widget to build your report.
  • Refresh: Updates and reloads the content.
  • Close: Closes the widget.
Add Sorting Click to add a column to sort on, then select the column from the drop-down and the type of sort, Ascending or Descending, for that column.

About Column Ordering

You drag and drop sorted columns to change the order of how the Reporting Tool sorts the data on your report For example, if you have three columns, Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial, all sorted Ascending, by ordering these three columns with Last Name on top, First Name next, and Middle Initial last, the report will prioritize the ascending alphabetical sort of the first occurring column, Last Name, then sort within that sort by First Name, and finally within that sort by Middle Name.

You can also use keyboard shortcuts to order sorting:

  • Click + Shift: Moves the column to the front of the list of sorted columns.
  • Click + Control + Shift : Toggles the direction between Ascending / Descending, but preserves the current sorting position in the list of sorted columns.
  • Click + Control : Moves the item to the end of the current sorting list.

Remove All Click to delete all sorting on all columns.
