Subproject Tab of the Projects Form

This tab is enabled when the Master Project check box on the Projects General tab is selected. It displays the list of subprojects associated with the selected master project. You can associate or disassociate subprojects from the master project using this tab.

All tabs of the Projects Form View share the same toolbar.

Option

Description

Subproject

  • Print — Select this option to display the Print Preview window of the grid's content.

  • Export to Excel — Select this option to display the contents of the grid in Microsoft Excel.

Associate

Click to display the Subproject Search dialog box (similar to the Project Search dialog box) to add or associate additional subprojects with the master project. The Search dialog box lists the projects to which you have access rights and that are visible in PM Compass. The subprojects that are already selected are highlighted. Deselecting a highlighted subproject does not disassociate it from the master project. To remove it, you need to select the subproject in the grid and click Remove.

When you associate a project, it is also associated in the source system.

You cannot add the same subproject twice.

Remove

Click to disassociate the selected subproject from the master project. If you remove a subproject, it is also removed in the source system.

Validate

Validation of subprojects is not performed when you access the view. Instead, you can click this button to perform the following subproject validations:

  • If the project is configured for cost progress, and the option to update ETC is selected (the Allow Editing a Forecast option on the Progress tab), do all projects have the same class and cost set specified in the master project?

  • Is the master project period end date the same for all subprojects?

  • Do the master project forecast dates match the date set used for forecast data (early/late/scheduled)?

  • Do the master project and subprojects that are linked to a schedule use the same scheduling tool and linking fields?

  • Are all of the control fields on the Fields tab the same as the master project?

  • Are the following settings (in Cobra on the project Preferences tab) for the subproject the same as the master project:

  • Spread ETC According to Existing ETC Spread

  • Allow Negative ETC

  • Prevent Editing of Historical Time phased Values

  • This validation is skipped for PM Compass-only projects.

  • Are the settings for Number of Days Before Period End to Create Progress Entries and the Progress Cycle Frequency the same for the master project and subprojects?

If any of the above answers is No, PM Compass displays a message box letting you know that there was an error and an email is sent to the address assigned to the logged in user who clicked the button.

If a sub-project is a PMC-only project and is linked to a master project that has the Allow Editing a Forecast option on the Projects form Progress tab selected, PM Compass will not validate the project against the master project.
