Text Editor Toolbar

Use the toolbar options on the Text Editor dialog box to perform basic formatting functions.

Save your work: The Text Editor toolbar does not include a Save command. When you click on the upper right corner of the Text Editor dialog box to close the Text Editor, PM Compass displays the Save Changes dialog box.

The following table shows all the formatting options that are available in the Text Editor dialog box:

Cut

To remove text from your document, highlight the text and click this button.

Copy

To copy text from your document, highlight the text and click this button.

Paste

To paste text that you have copied or cut into your document, place the mouse pointer where you want the text to display and click this button.

Paste as Plain Text

To paste text that you have copied or cut into your document as plain text, place the mouse pointer where you want the text to display and click this button.

Undo / Redo

To undo or redo actions, click one of these buttons.

Find

To locate specific text on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click this button.

On the Find dialog box, the following options display:

  • Find what — Enter the text for which you want the Text Editor to perform a search.

  • Find Options:

  • Match case — To direct the Text Editor to locate only those entries that display in the same case as the text entered in the Find what field, select this option.

  • Match whole word only — To direct the Text Editor to ignore occurrences of the text within another term, select this option. If, for example, you search for the word with but do not want PM Compass to highlight its appearance in other words such as within and withholdings, you would select this option.

  • Search up — Search from the bottom up instead of the top down.

  • Search in the main text — Include the main text in the search.

  • Search in text frames — Include any text frames in the search.

  • Search in headers and footers — Includes the headers and footers in the search.

  • Find Next — Click to find each location of the text in your search.

Replace

To locate and replace specific text on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click this button.

On the Replace dialog box, the following options display:

  • Find what — Enter the text for which you want the Text Editor to perform a search.

  • Replace with — If you want to replace the found text with other text, enter it here.

  • Find Options:

  • Match case — To direct the Text Editor to locate only those entries that display in the same case as the text entered in the Find what field, select this option.

  • Match whole word only — To direct the Text Editor to ignore occurrences of the text within another term, select this option. If, for example, you search for the word with but do not want PM Compass to highlight its appearance in other words such as within and withholdings, you would select this option.

  • Search up — Search from the bottom up instead of the top down.

  • Search in the main text — Include the main text in the search.

  • Search in text frames — Include any text frames in the search.

  • Replace — Click to replace the located text with the text in the Replace with field.

  • Replace All — Click to replace all instances of the text entered in the Find what field.

Spell Checker

To check the spelling of text entered on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click this button.

On the Spelling Errors Found dialog box, any spelling errors that are found are underlined. You choose whether to ignore or modify the spelling of each misspelled word that is identified.

The options for each misspelled word are the following:

  • Ignore — Ignore this occurrence of the error.

  • Ignore All — Ignore all occurrences of the error.

  • Change — Select one of the suggested spellings provided for the underlined word or enter the spelling that you want in the Change To field. Then click Change to modify the spelling for this occurrence of the error.

  • Change All — Select one of the suggested spellings provided for the underlined word or enter the spelling that you want in the Change To field. Then click Change All, and modify the spelling for all occurrences of the error.

  • Finish — Close the Spelling Errors Found dialog box.

Word Count

To display the number of words and characters typed on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click this button.

Font Color

To modify the color of existing text, highlight the text and click this button. Then click the color that you want to apply.

You can also place your mouse pointer in a blank spot in the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click and select a color. The color that you select is applied to the text that you type after the mouse insertion point.

Insert Hyperlink

Use this button to insert a hyperlink. When you click the button, an Insert Hyperlink dialog box displays where you enter the text that you want to display as the hyperlink and the link to which it should go when clicked.

If you highlight text before clicking this button, the Insert Dialog displays with the highlighted text pre-inserted into the Text and Link fields.

Hyperlinks are not supported in reports and display only as regular text.

Formatting

To modify the style for existing text, highlight the text, and click the Formatting down arrow. Then select the formatting to apply.

You can also place your mouse pointer in a blank spot on the Text Editor dialog box, click the Formatting down arrow, and select a format. The formatting that you select is applied to the text that you type after the mouse insertion point.

If you apply formatting to text that has been copied to the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box and the text does not format correctly, try copying the text to Notepad first.

Font

To modify the font for existing text, highlight the text and click the Font down arrow. Then select the font to apply.

You can also place your mouse pointer in a blank spot on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click the Font down arrow, and choose a font. The font that you select is applied to the text that you type after the mouse insertion point.

Size

To modify the size of existing text, highlight the text, and click the Size down arrow. Then select the size to apply.

You can also place your mouse pointer in a blank spot on the PM Compass Text Editor dialog box, click the Size down arrow, and select a size. The size that you select is applied to the text that you type after the mouse insertion point.

Bold

To make text bold or to remove bold formatting, highlight the appropriate text and click this button.

Italic

To italicize text or to remove italic formatting, highlight the appropriate text and click this button.

Underline

To underline text or to remove underline formatting, highlight the appropriate text and click this button.

Justify (Left, Right, Center, Justify)

To align text, tables, and graphics, select the appropriate text or workflow and click one of these buttons.

Bullets List (Unordered List)

To create a bulleted list, select the first paragraph (or the required existing paragraphs) to include in your list and click this button. Thereafter, each time you press ENTER, the Text Editor creates a new bulleted paragraph.

Numbering List (Ordered List)

To create a numbered list, select the first paragraph (or the required existing paragraphs) to include in your list and click this button. Thereafter, each time you press ENTER, the Text Editor creates a new sequentially numbered paragraph.

Increase / Decrease Indent

To increase or decrease the indent of a paragraph by one tab stop, click one of these buttons.
