Configure Access Control to Dashparts

Use the Access Control to Dashparts dialog box to give users or groups access to your dashpart. As dashpart owner, you can decide whether to give other users access that enables them to add the dashpart to their dashboards, or access that allows them to modify the dashpart.

If you do not want other users to modify the dashpart, you must select the Read-Only option in the grid. You can set up this option for individual users or for entire groups.

For more information, see Dashpart Overview.

If access to a dashpart is given as read-only, you retain the ability to make changes to the dashpart and to distribute the changes to another user with whom you share the dashpart. Use the Access Control to Dashparts dialog box to distribute the changes.

If access to a dashpart is not given as read-only, the user with whom you share the dashpart can select it from the Hidden Dashparts dialog box and PM Compass then makes a copy of the dashpart. The other user is now the owner of the dashpart copy. This dashpart copy is associated with the dashboard currently selected by the other user. At this point, ties to the original dashpart are severed, but the original dashpart that you share with the other user still displays on that user's hidden dashpart list.

You can also use the Access Control to Dashparts dialog box to see which groups and users have access to your dashpart. You can also revoke access to shared dashparts this dialog box.

Any user who is a member of the SYSADMIN group can grant or revoke access to any dashpart in PM Compass.

A dashpart on a read-only dashboard cannot be added automatically by other users, with whom the dashboard is shared, to their own dashboards. The owner of the read-only dashboard must use the Access Control to Dashparts dialog box to share the dashpart so the other users can add it to their own dashboards.

To configure access control to dashparts, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Navigation menu, click Dashboards then select a dashboard that you own.

  2. On the Dashboard toolbar, click Dashparts ยป Access Control to Dashparts.
