Restore Data from a Legacy Backup File

Use this procedure to restore data from a legacy backup file.

Note: Backup files created prior to Cobra 8.5 used the legacy file extensions. Cobra saves a copy of the file in legacy file extension before it proceeds with the Restore process. When the Restore process completes, the Cobra file is restored with the corresponding BK file extension based on Cobra file type.

For additional guidelines, see File Extension and Restore Guidelines.

To restore data from a legacy backup file:
  1. Click > Manage > Restore.
  2. In the Open dialog box, use the field to select the legacy file type that you want to restore.
The Open dialog box displays all files to which you have access based on the type you select. For example, if you select Legacy Project Backups (*.cmp), the Open dialog box displays all available projects to which you have permission to access. You can select multiple files.
Note: If you select a backup file with a BK file extension, see Restore Data from a Backup File with a BK File Extension.
  3. A message box displays informing you that Cobra will create the new backup file(s) in BK file extension before the Restore process. Click OK.
  4. In the Browse For Folder dialog box, navigate to the folder where you want to save the new backup file(s) and click OK.
    • If a legacy backup file(s) with the same filename already exists, the Save As dialog box displays and prompts if you want to replace the existing file(s).
      • Click Yes or Yes to All to replace the existing file(s).
The Creating new backup files dialog box displays. The file(s) in the backup folder are updated.
        • If you are restoring project backups, proceed to Step 5.
        • If you are restoring reports or configuration backups, proceed to Step 6.
      • Click No or No to All to cancel the Restore process.
  5. The Select Files to Restore dialog box displays only if you are restoring a single project or master project.
    • If you are restoring multiple files and the files do not exist yet, the Restore Progress dialog box displays, and the process proceeds immediately and completes. Proceed to Step 8.
    • If you are restoring multiple files and a file(s) with the same filename already exists, Cobra prompts if you want to overwrite the existing file(s). Proceed to Step 7.
In the Select Files to Restore dialog box, perform the following steps:
    1. In the Tree view, select the ancillary files associated with the project that you want to restore. Alternatively, click Select All or Deselect All.
    2. In the Restore Project as field, enter the name of the new project or select a different project to which you want to restore the selected project.
    3. Select the Use bulk data loader option to perform the Restore process with Bulk Data Loader.
Note: When restoring projects with a very large time-phased data, select this option to run the process much more quickly. This option is hidden if you are using Cobra with a SQL Server database or with an Oracle database in an n-tier setup. For more information, see File Restore with Bulk Data Loader.
    4. Click Restore.
      • If the file does not exist yet, the Restore Progress dialog box displays, and the process proceeds immediately and completes. Proceed to Step 8.

    • If you are restoring multiple files and a file(s) with the same filename already exists, Cobra prompts if you want to overwrite the existing file(s). Proceed to Step 7.
In the Restore dialog box, perform the following steps:
    1. Select a different file using the Lookup dialog box or enter a new filename in the field.
    2. Click Restore.
      • If the file does not exist yet, the Restore Progress dialog box displays, and the process proceeds immediately and completes. Proceed to Step 7.
      • If a file with the same filename already exists, Cobra prompts if you want to overwrite the existing file. Proceed to Step 6.
  7. In the Save As dialog box, do one of the following steps:
    • Click Yes or Yes to All to overwrite the existing file(s) and proceed with the Restore process. The file(s) will be updated.
    • Click No or No to All to exclude the existing file(s) from the Restore process. The file(s) will not be updated.
    • Click Cancel to cancel the Restore process.
Important: As the existing file with the same file name maybe be overwritten, it is recommended that you name your file appropriately and pay attention to where exactly you are saving the file.
  8. Click View Log to display processing and any error information.
