Backup Guidelines

Cobra follows a set of rules when performing the Backup process.

These rules are as follows:
  • A Cobra file that is unique by name defaults to the same Cobra file name. This applies to projects, master projects, and batch reports. For example, Demo Advanced.BKCP.
  • For Cobra files that allow the same file name owned by different users, the default file name includes the Owner ID. This applies to configurations, reports, report filters, and report sorts. For example, Time-phased Report.SYSADMIN.BKCR.
  • When you back up multiple files, Cobra skips those files with invalid filenames. Only files with valid filenames are backed up successfully.
  • When you back up a configuration, sort, or filter with a filename that exceeds 22 characters, Cobra truncates the filename to 22 characters in the Project column of the Process Log entry.
  • The Backup process does not proceed if the user has no access to the file being backed up or rights to the Backup securable options in the EPM Security Administrator tool.
Note: Use the Process Log Viewer dialog box to view the log files generated by the Backup process.
