Spreading Data Evenly on the Planning Tabs

A task's duration is the span of time between the start and finish dates. When you change a task's dates, Vision can re-spread the task's data evenly on all Planning tabs.

For example, if the task has 44 hours of work over the duration of one week, and you change the duration to two weeks, Vision will automatically change the task's dates accordingly and spread the 44 hours evenly over two weeks' time.

You can spread data evenly on the Planning tabs in the following ways:

  • For Labor, Expenses, and Consultants, you can right-click on an hours or cost cell to access the Spread Evenly dialog box. This allows you to specify the date range across which you want to spread amounts. After you select the range, Vision evenly spreads the amounts across that duration.
  • For tasks on the Schedule tab, you can resize a task bar on the interactive Gantt chart to change the task's start, finish, and overall duration. In this case, Vision automatically spreads any associated task data evenly on the accordion calendar to reflect the new duration. You can choose to be prompted each time that this occurs, or you can select the Re-Spread Data when Re-Size Gantt Bar option on the Planning Options menu for Vision to spread the data whenever a task bar is resized.

In either situation, spreading data on one of the Planning tabs updates the plan's hours and/or costs on all related Planning tabs. Use caution when changing task dates and duration, or spreading data, on any of these tabs.
