Select Generic Resources with the Project Planning Resource Search

Generic resources are labor category placeholders that represent resource assignments in a plan. Generic resources act as placeholders for actual people to be named later.

To select one or more generic resources for an assignment, complete the following steps:

1. Click Generic to display the Generic Resource lookup.
2. Select Resource Name from the drop-down list for the Search By field.
3. Click Search.

   Vision lists the generic resources alphabetically.

4. Select one or more generic resources for the assignment:

   • Click on a single category.

   • Use SHIFT + click to select multiple, consecutive categories.

   • Use CTRL + click to select multiple, non-consecutive categories.

5. Click Select.

   Vision assigns the generic resource(s) to the WBS element selected.
