Field Description
Printer Name Select the printer that you want to use. The available printers are those configured on the Vision report processor and to which your security role has access. When you select a printer, Vision displays information about that printer in the Model, Location, and Description fields.

To print on a printer that is not set up in Vision, select <local printer>. When you click Print, Vision generates and displays the report in portable document format (PDF). Use the print options in Adobe Acrobat to print the report using one of the printers you have defined in Microsoft Windows.

If you select <local printer>, you can specify the pages to print, and you can select Save reports to the application server when printing to store a file copy of the report, but the other options in the Print dialog box in Vision are not available. However, equivalent print options are available in Adobe Acrobat.

Page Range: Print All Select this option if you want to print all pages of the report.
Page Range: Print Range Select this option if you want to print individual pages or ranges of pages from the report. Use hyphens to indicate page ranges (5-12). Use commas to separate individual pages or ranges (3,5,7-10).
Copies: Number of Copies Enter the number of copies that you want to print.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you specify the number of copies when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Copies: Collate If you want to print more than one copy and your printer can collate, select Collate if you want the printer to collate the report pages.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you can select the collation option when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Paper: Size Select the size of paper on which you want to print the report.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you specify the paper size when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Paper: Source If your printer has multiple paper sources (paper trays), select a source.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you specify the paper source when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Set Scale If your printer can scale reports, select Set Scale if you want a scale other than 100 percent. Enter the percentage in the Set Scale field.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you specify the scale when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Use Color If your printer prints in color, select Use Color if you want to print the report in color.

This option is useful if the report has colored sorting bands.

If you select <local printer> in Printer Name, this option is not available. Instead, you select color printing when you print the report in Adobe Acrobat.

Save Reports to the Application Server When Printing Select this option if you want to store a file copy of the report as well as print it. If you select this option, specify the file format in Save file as.

When you save reports to the application server, they are saved in the following location:

<Vision installation directory>\Reports\SavedFiles\<database description>\<your user ID>

Save File As If you select Save reports to the application server when printing, use this option to select one of the following file formats:
  • Adobe PDFVision saves the report as an Adobe portable document format (PDF) file.
  • Rich Text Format (RTF) — Vision saves the report as an RTF file.
  • Microsoft Word DocumentVision saves the report as a Microsoft Word document. You can then use Word formatting options to modify the appearance of the report.

  • HTML DocumentVision saves the report as an HTML file.
Save Only Select this option if you want to save the report without printing it.
Print Using Previous Version's Method (May be Slower) This check box displays on a Vision print dialog box only if you press the CTRL key at the same time that you click a print option, such as Print, to open the Print dialog box. Select this check box if you want to print something using a previous version of Vision's printing technology.

You can use the older printing technology (from Vision 6.1) only when you do either of the following:

  • Print directly to a network printer that has been set up within Vision.
  • Schedule a report to print.

In these scenarios, the Vision Print dialog box displays. Access to Vision network printers is controlled by Vision role security.

You cannot print with the older printing technology if you print from Preview window. (In this scenario, the standard Windows Print dialog box displays when you print.)

In the following scenarios, you have no control over the Print Using Previous Version's Method (May be Slower) check box. It is selected automatically, regardless of whether or not you see the check box on the Print dialog box:

  • On the print dialog box, you select more than one copy to print in the Number of Copies field and you clear the Collate check box.
  • On the Print dialog box, you select the Set Scale check box and you change the percentage to something other than 100%.
Buttons Print or OK — Click this button to print the report on the printer selected in Printer Name. Vision also saves a copy of the report in a file if you selected Save reports to the application server when printing.

If your firm uses the Deltek First Vision Essentials cloud version of Vision, the Print option is not available. You can preview reports onscreen and then print the reports from the Preview window.

Save — If you select Save only, the Print button changes to the Save button. Click Save to save a copy of the report in a file.

Close — Click this button to close the dialog box without printing the report.
