The Overhead Allocation report contains a standard set of columns. You do not have the option to select columns for this report.

Columns

Column Description
Run for Period This column displays the accounting period for which you generated the report.
Method This column displays the overhead allocation method:
  • Assignment — You supply the overhead rate. Vision multiplies a base amount by that rate to calculate the amount of overhead to allocate.

  • Prorated — Vision calculates the overhead rate by dividing the total overhead expenses from the Income Statement by a base amount for each project to calculate the amount of overhead to allocate.

You set the method on the Overhead Allocation Configuration form (Configuration > Accounting > Overhead Allocation).

Effective Rate This column displays your firm’s effective hourly rate.

Vision calculates the effective hourly rate as follows:

Job-to-date labor amount (at cost or billing rates) / Job-to-date hours

Basis This column displays the basis for overhead allocation:
  • Direct Labor — Vision allocates overhead based on the monetary amount of direct labor. Direct labor includes regular hours and overtime hours. Projects with more direct labor receive more overhead.

  • Revenue — Vision allocate overhead based on revenue. Projects that generate more revenue receive more overhead.

You set the overhead allocation basis on the Overhead Allocation Configuration form (Configuration > Accounting > Overhead Allocation).

Overhead Rate This column displays the overhead rate for the project. This rate is specified in the Budgeted OH Rate field on the Accounting tab of the Project Info Center.
Allocation Base This column displays the allocation base for the project. Vision calculates the allocation base amount from the amounts posted to accounts you included in the allocation base during setup.
Current Overhead This column displays the amount of overhead allocated to the project or phase for the current accounting period.
Year-to-Date Overhead This column displays the amount of overhead allocated to the project or phase since the year began.

This amount should match the total indirect expenses on your Income Statement.

Project-to-Date Overhead This column displays the amount of overhead allocated to the project or phase since the project began.
Project Number This column displays the number of the project to which overhead was allocated.
Project Name This column displays the name of the project to which overhead was allocated.
Phase Number This column displays the number of the phase to which overhead was allocated.
Phase Name This column displays the name of the phase to which overhead was allocated.
Variance Project/Phase This column displays the project or the phase that receives any difference between the computed amount and the actual amount of overhead distributed.

This project or phase usually only receives an amount if you use the Assignment method. However, it may also receive small rounding variances if you use the Proration method.

Project Totals This column displays the total overhead allocated to the project.
Overall Totals This column displays the total overhead allocated to all projects.
