Grouping Data on Visualization Maps

When you generate a visualization map, Vision displays it based on the default grouping category. You can then select a different grouping category, add grouping levels, remove grouping levels, and change the order of grouping levels.

Use the Grouping tab in the Options dialog box to specify the list of grouping categories that you want to be available for selection when you work with the visualization map in the Visualization window.

Grouping Hierarchy

If you select Group on the Grouping tab of the Options dialog box for two or more grouping categories, you can combine categories in the Visualization window to create a grouping hierarchy. If you set up a grouping category on the Grouping tab with an outer group and an inner group, Vision automatically displays the visualization map with a two-level hierarchy when you select that grouping option in the Grouping field.

You do not have to set up grouping hierarchies in the Options dialog box, however. You can also do it in the Visualization window as you work with a visualization map.

Category Fields

To the right of the Grouping field when you first open a visualization map is another field for the currently selected grouping category. The top part of that field is the category name, and the bottom part displays the number of elements from that category that are included in the map. You can use that category field to do the following:

  • Add another category to the grouping hierarchy.

  • Move the category to another location in the grouping hierarchy.

  • Remove the category from the hierarchy.

  • Filter the map to show only blocks for selected category elements.

Primary Grouping Category

The Grouping field in the Visualization window displays the primary grouping category by default.
