Example of Foreign Employee Types

It is likely that you will not select the same employee types for all companies in your enterprise. To allow for the possibility that Company A may reference an employee type that Company B does not use, you must specify the direct and indirect accounts that Vision should use to process timesheets or labor adjustments that reference foreign employee types.

You specify accounting types on the Accounting tab of Configuration > Accounting > Employee Types.

Example

Company A has three employee types:

  • E — Employee

  • M — Management

  • P — Principal

Company B has only one employee type:

  • E — Employee

William Apple, an employee of Company A, submits a timesheet on which he charges time to Project 2009, a direct project. The organization specified on its record in the Project Info Center indicates that Project 2009 belongs to Company B.

William Apple has an employee type of P (Principal), which has not been specified for Company B. In terms of intercompany transactions, William Apple has a foreign employee type.

When processing William Apple's timesheet, Vision uses the intercompany account number specified in the Foreign Employee Type Labor Posting Accounts-Direct Account field on the Accounts tab of Configuration > Accounting > Company Settings.
