Associations Grid Examples - Contact Info Center

You can associate contact records with other contact records.

Example One

Your company is currently working on a project for a small firm run by two partners. In the Contact Info Center, you enter a contact record for each partner and a record for the Account Manager at the firm.

Use the Associations grid in each of the three contact records to associate the individual records and define the contacts' relationships to each other, such as partner, employer, or employee. You can also enter a more detailed description of each relationship.

Example Two

If you open the contact record for Jane Turner and add Robert Weld to the Associations grid:

  • Robert Weld — and the relationship you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of Jane Turner's contact record.

  • Jane Turner — and the relationship you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of Robert Weld's contact record.

If you remove the association from the Associations grid in either Jane Turner's contact record or Robert Weld's contact record, the association is removed from the Associations grid in both records.

Example Three

When you specify contact associations on the Associations grid, you can specify that client associations be created as well.

In this example, you have two client firms, Weld Associates and Dependable Printing Company. Robert Weld is the contact for Weld Associates and Jane Turner is the contact for Dependable Printing Company.

If you create a contact-to-contact association between Robert Weld and Jane Turner, you can also create an association between Weld Associates and Dependable Printing Company.

After you set up the associations:

  • Robert Weld — and the relationship that you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of Jane Turner's contact record.

  • Jane Turner — and the relationship that you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of Robert Weld's contact record.

  • Weld Associates — and the relationship that you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of the Dependable Printing Company's client record.

  • Dependable Printing Company — and the relationship that you define — displays in the Associations grid on the Associations tab of the Weld Associates' client record.

If you remove the contact association from the Associations grid in either Jane Turner's contact record or Robert Weld's contact record, the association is removed from the Associations grid in both records. When you remove the contact association from one of the contact records, you do not remove the corresponding client association.

If you remove the client association from the Associations grid in either the Weld Associates' client record or the Dependable Printing Company's client record, the association is removed from the Associations grid in both records. When you remove the client association from one of the client records, you do not remove the corresponding contact association.
