Example of How to Set Up Vision Security

If you are new to Vision, you may find it helpful to review an example that shows how a firm uses Security Configuration to set up 300 users.

The 300 employees are divided into the following departments, each of which performs a different job function and has separate needs for Vision information:

  • 200 Customer Service Representatives

  • 50 Marketing Communications personnel

  • 25 Product Managers

  • 25 Account Representatives

Sample Solution

  1. Create a role for each group of users:

    1. From the Vision Navigation menu, click Configuration > Security > Roles and select New Role.

    2. On the Roles form, enter CustomerService as the role name, and select the menu items that the role can access. Click Save to save your entry.

    3. Use the Role tabs to establish additional access rights to the role.

  2. Assign users to the role and automatically generate passwords:

    1. From the Vision Navigation menu, click Configuration > Security > Users and then click the Generate Users tab.

    2. From the Role drop-down list, select CustomerService.

    3. Select the appropriate options for the Name Type, Password, and Printer fields.

    4. From the Employee Name list, select the names of the 200 employees who belong in this role and click the Generate button. These employees are now associated with the CustomerService role.
