Client Hierarchy Overview

Use the Client Hierarchy feature to create a hierarchy of records in the Client Info Center, to display parent and subsidiary relationships between multiple clients. If you have large firms or agencies as clients, you can obtain and view project and opportunity data at a corporate-wide level for all records in the hierarchy.

When you configure Client Hierarchy, you set up the number of levels of the hierarchy.

When the Client Hierarchy feature is activated, the following things happen:

  • If a client record is part of a hierarchy, a folder icon displays on the Clients form in the Client Info Center that displays the hierarchy tree.
  • A Parent field displays on the General tab in the Client Info Center, which allows you to search for and select a sub level for the client record.
  • A Parent field displays on the Sorting/Grouping tab in Reporting, which allows you to sort and group by parent.
  • A Parent field displays on the Column tab in Reporting, which lists the parent of the client record.
  • A Client Hierarchy Lookup displays on the General tab of the Opportunity List, Opportunity Forecast, Opportunity Hit Rate List, Client List, and Project List report options, which allows you to select a level of hierarchy. When you make any client selection, Vision applies the selection to the entire hierarchy.
For example, if you choose one client of Navy on this lookup, the report includes Navy and the entire hierarchy associated with Navy (both parent records and children of Navy). For example, if you have Department of Defense as the parent to Navy, who is in turn the parent to NAVSEA:
    • If you select Department of Defense in the client hierarchy lookup, the report returns all clients associated with DoD, Navy, and NAVSEA.
    • If you select Navy in the client hierarchy lookup, the report returns a header recorder for DoD (without including any detailed information on DoD) and includes complete details on Navy and NAVSEA. You cannot choose NAVSEA, because it is not the parent of another client record.
