Project Planning Generic Resources

Generic resources are labor category placeholders that represent resource assignments in a plan. Generic resources act as placeholders for actual people to be named later. You can use generic resources for summary-level plans or for plans intended to function as "what-if" scenarios.

After you award the plan and work begins, you can change the generic resources to actual employees who are responsible for the tasks.

The Generic Resource tab displays as a function of the Labor grid's Resource Search. Use the Generic Resource tab to search for a generic category of employee to assign to the current WBS element.

The generic resources available in Planning are taken from the labor category and labor code billing rate tables specified in the Billing application.

The resources that display depend on the Generic Method selected on the Rates tab of Project Planning. If the Generic Method is Labor Category, all generic resources from the Labor Category table display.
