Select Graph Settings

For some reports, you can use Graph tab options to include a graph on the report.

The legend provides a color key to all graphed items. Regardless of the number of graphed items and the height of the legend, all of the graphed items are displayed. That can result in an unreadable legend because the items overlap. To correct that situation, change the record selection criteria for the report to reduce the number of graphed items, increase the height that you specify for the graph, or specify a smaller font size for the graph.

The Graph tab for the Resource Utilization by Organization Report contains options not available for other reports.

Prerequisites: If you want to include a user-defined field on a graph, select the Total option for the user-defined field when you set it up in Configuration. If you do not do this, Vision cannot set the scale appropriately for the graph. To set the Total option, click Configuration > General > User Defined Components on the Vision Navigation menu, and click the Fields tab.

To select settings for the graph options, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Graph tab on the Options dialog box.
  2. Select the Show Graph option to make the graphing options available.
  3. In the Title field, enter a graph title.
  4. In the Type field, select the type of graph: Bar or Pie.
  5. If you want the graph appear as if it has three dimensions, select 3 Dimensional.
  6. In the Labels field, select the appropriate label.
  7. If the graph is a bar graph, select the Flip Axes option if you want to change the graph orientation.
  8. In the Y Title field, enter a title for the vertical axis.
  9. In the X Title field, enter a title for the horizontal axis.
  10. In Display Data, select the data to be graphed.

The data that you select here must also be selected as columns on the Columns tab of the Options dialog box.

  11. Use the Add Series (for bar charts) or Add Slices (for pie charts) options to select additional types of data for comparison.

The data that you select here must also be selected as columns on the Columns tab of the Options dialog box.

  12. In Display graph amounts in, select Standard format, Thousands, or Millions.
  13. Set the graph location and size options:
    Option Description
Show Select the location of the chart.
Legend Specify the legend location or hide it.
Font Size Specify the size of the font for text displayed along the axes.

For the following measurement fields, enter inches or millimeters based on which one you entered on the Layout tab of the report Options dialog box. Use decimals for fractions of an inch (for example, .25 or 3.50).

    Option Description
Height and Width Set the dimensions of the graph area.
Top and Left Enter the number of inches or millimeters from the top and left page margins that you want Vision to position the graph. If you intend to display the graph on your Dashboard, set both margins to 0 (zero).

To determine the position of the graph, Vision adds your entry in Top to the entry in Top Margin on the Layout tab and your entry in Left to the entry in Left Margin on the Layout tab.

  14. After you set all report options, click Apply.
