Analysis Cubes and Security

The Analysis Cubes application uses Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services security rather than Vision security. With SQL Server Analysis Services security, you set up permissions by role or by user to define who can access information. You can restrict access to a data cube, measure groups, or specific measures within a measure group.

Examples:

• Create a role so that only appropriate users in your accounting organization can access the General Ledger data cube.

• Restrict access to measures that contain employee pay rate and confidential information. In this scenario, you can set up a role or restrict specific users so that only the appropriate users have access to measures in the Employee Measures, Labor - Employee, Labor - Cost, Plan Labor - Cost, Project Budgeting, and Time Analysis measure groups.

Instead of setting up Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services security, another approach to security is to have only a limited group of users, such as a database or system administrator with access to all Vision reporting data, create Vision custom reports. These users can then deliver the report output (instead of the report design) appropriately to other employees.
