Generate an API Key

You use this procedure to generate an API key.

Deltek recommends that you set up one user solely for the purpose of making API calls. This means that all updates to TrafficLIVE are done in this single user name, for example Accounts Integration, rather than in the name of a real user, which could cause confusion. API accounts are billable.

The API token is for one time. Cut and paste to use it. If you regenerate it, you receive another key.

Warning: A user who has an API key can create, read, update, and delete the majority of the data that is held in TrafficLIVE. The API does not enforce any permissions. Users who have API keys can make any service calls that they choose.

To generate an API key, complete the following steps:

1. Click Menu > Admin > Company Management.
2. In the Locations, Depts & Staff pane, select the user (account) for which you want to generate the API key.
   Attention: The account to which the API key is connected must log in at least once using the TrafficLIVE application to activate the account. If you do not do this, you will get a connection error.
3. In the right-side pane, click Generate API Token. TrafficLIVE displays the API key in the API Token field. You can copy and paste to use it.
