Troubleshooting: Cannot Connect to the Open Plan Engine

If an Open Plan check fails, subsequent checks will fail. For example, if the user login ID is missing, all of the following checks (such as this one) will fail because the system needs the user login ID to connect to the engine to determine the version number and so on. If multiple checks fail, Deltek recommends resolving the first failed check and rerunning the verify process to see if it resolves all issues. For a list of the checks and the order in which they are performed, see Verify Components Tab.

If any of the Credentials for PM Compass to Connect to Open Plan verification checks fail, then the system will not be able to connect to the Open Plan engine. Correct those errors first and rerun the verification process to see if the connection to the Open Plan engine now passes. If the verification checks are unsuccessful, consult the table below to identify the underlying issue.

Problem

Description/Troubleshooting Details

User password in EPM SA is invalid

The verification check fails if the password is invalid or if it cannot connect to the scheduling database.

First, confirm or correct the user password in EPM SA.

For more information, refer to the procedure below.

If the password is correct and this check still fails, confirm that the Web Service URL is correctly defined in the database.

For more information, see "PM Compass Web service URL is not correctly defined in the database" below.

Open Plan DLLs are not properly registered

Re-run the Open Plan integration installation.

For information and steps, see "Installing the Open Plan Integration Files" in the Deltek PM Compass Installation Guide.

Default data source in Open Plan is not correct

The default data source and the description on the user work station must match the entry and description in the PM Compass Weblink application.

PM Compass Web service URL is not correctly defined in the database

Confirm that the _PMCWEBSERVICEURL in Open Plan Preferences ยป Application is correct.

For more information, see Tell Open Plan How to Find the PM Compass Application.

Only the server part of the _PMCWEBSERVICEURL setting is checked and verified.

The _PMCTRACELOG option is turned on in WST_UPD, but the directory that it is pointing to is not valid or has not been created

For steps to view and edit the _PMCTRACELOG option, see Enable Detail Logs.

User has no Open Plan license

The user you created in order to connect to Open Plan must have an Open Plan license.

For more information, see Troubleshooting: Credentials for PM Compass to Connect to Open Plan Do Not Have Open Plan License.

The SQL Server Native Client is not installed

Logon to each Web Server and Process Server and search for a file called SQLNCLI11_sqlncli.msi. The PM Compass installation normally installs the file into the following folder on the server: C:\Program Files\Deltek\PMCompass\Support\Utilities.

If the file is missing, search the Microsoft site for SQLNCLI11_sqlncli.msi, and download and install it on each Web Server and Process Server.

To verify the user password:

  1. Log onto Deltek EPM Security Administrator using an account with SYSADMIN privileges.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Security, and click Users.

  3. Use the Search field or the navigation arrows to locate the user that you have specified in the Credentials for PM Compass to connect to Open Plan field on the System Settings General tab.

  4. On the Authentication tab, re-enter the password.

  5. Click Save.

In PM Compass, verify the installed components again. If this check still fails, confirm that the Open Plan DLLs are registered correctly. To do this, you should re-run the Open Plan integration installation.

For information and steps, see "Installing the Open Plan Integration Files" in the Deltek PM Compass Installation Guide. Afterwards, you should verify the installed components again.
