Enable Instant Messaging

This procedure allows you to enable instant messaging, which allows communication with users who appear online via instant message or email.

To enable instant messaging, complete the following steps:

1. From the Navigation menu, click Configuration » System Settings. The System Settings form displays on the right pane. The General tab displays by default.

2. Select the Enable Instant Messaging option. Selecting this option displays an icon called IM ball next to user fields. The IM ball indicates the selected user's status, such as busy or available. This option is selected by default.

You can determine the status of the selected user by the IM ball color. The IM ball only displays if Microsoft Office Communicator is installed on your computer, and Microsoft Office Service is configured correctly.

3. On the form toolbar, click Save.
