Data Sources Overview

A data source is a named connection to a database. Before you can build a connection to a database, you must first have a database to which you connect. A data source contains information about the database location and the database type. You can find the list of available data sources and corresponding data source connection information in the datasources.dat file.

When upgrading from the older version of any PPM products, you need to convert existing data encrypted with the older algorithms using the PPM Encryption Conversion Utility tool. You must run it manually on all servers that have PPM data source information in your environment.

After upgrading the database using the PPM Encryption Conversion Utility tool, you are prompted to change your password the first time you log on to EPM Security Administrator if you have not yet changed your password in another PPM product. For more information, see the Deltek PPM Encryption Conversion Utility Tool document.
