There are three search types from which to choose. You can use any of these options from the Display type field to locate records. The option you select depends on the complexity of your search.
This display type is the most straightforward search option. Clicking the Search button displays the results, based on your selected search criteria.
The Search By drop-down list provides a list of fields that you can select for a search.
The Search Text field allows you to enter a value or part of a value with wildcards.
All searches defaults to Standard except for the following search dialog boxes, which defaults to Advanced:
Any search dialog box (except for the User Search dialog box) on reports
Control Account Search dialog box from the Saved Search field on the Configure dialog box on the Cost Analysis dashpart.
Activity Search dialog box from the Saved Search field on the Configure dialog box on the Schedule Analysis dashpart.
Workflow Search dialog box from the Saved Search field on the Configure dialog box on the Workflows dashpart.
This display type allows you to use comparative operators to further narrow down the number of displayed records. The Advanced search criteria can be saved for future use.
This display type displays the SQL syntax for a search created using the Advanced search. You can also modify the SQL Where Clause to create more complex search criteria, if you are familiar with simple SQL queries.
Only users who are members of the SYSADMIN group have the SQL Where Clause option to select from in the Display type drop-down list.
