Rules for Updating % Complete for a Primavera P6 Schedule

P6 Option: Activity Percent Complete Based on Steps

Primavera P6 has a project option titled Activity percent complete based on steps. The setting of this option controls if you can edit activity physical % complete when steps exist on an activity. If you have this setting checked, the activity Physical % Complete is disabled. Select the steps tab and enter step progress to automatically update the activity progress and the Physical % Complete.

Allow Resource Percent Complete

If the Progress option Allow Resource Percent Complete is selected (on the Progress tab) and there are no steps on the activity, the activity Physical % Complete is updated if you update the resource Physical % Complete. Similarly, editing the resource Physical % Complete will update the activity Physical % Complete.

When progress is approved, the resource Physical % Complete updates the Units % Complete on the Resource Assignments tab.

When you complete an activity or you enter an actual finish date , the activity Physical % Complete and the resource Physical % Complete are updated to 100%. The steps are not marked as completed and the remaining units are not changed in PM Compass; however, after approval, Primavera P6 automatically updates the remaining quantity to 0.

Activities that do not have an early start date (that is, the activity has never been time analyzed), are not imported. Similarly, roles are not imported.

P6 Activity Type = Units

When the P6 activity type is Units, the Physical % Complete is not updated during the integration. This is due to limitations in the P6 web services. When the activity type is units, the Physical % Complete entered in PM Compass remains as you entered it after the integration (and remains 0 in P6). Using an activity type of Physical % Complete updates the P6 Physical % Complete on the activity to match the PM Compass Physical % Complete during the integration.

Progress Type = Percent Complete

When you select a progress type of Percent Complete, the Primavera P6 Duration % Complete field is updated.

Progress Type = As Planned

When you select a progress type of As Planned, PM Compass assumes that the activity is progressing as originally planned and calculates the Percent Complete based on the activity duration (Original Duration minus Time Now). After the integration is performed, the progress type changes to Percent Complete and a percentage is added to the Progress Value column.
