While Open Plan users have added benefits, non-Open Plan users benefit from PM Compass by simplifying the change management tasks:
Traceability — You can see the state of every change request, and because the scheduling and cost details are attached to the form, all the needed information is contained therein.
Speed — Employing a PM Compass change request enables an automated process to obtain the necessary signatures for approval of the change.
If you have projects connected to a schedule other than Open Plan, PM Compass supports two different processes:
Process |
Description |
Requesting and Approving Change |
You can use the Request Change and Approve Change change management types when you have a resource-loaded schedule and you want the Cobra budget to be created by loading the resources from the schedule.
These change management types are not listed in the Navigation menu » Workflows folder by default. For steps on how to add them to the Navigation menu, see Display a Workflow Type on the Navigation Menu. |
Editing Cost Data Without Editing Activities |
This process allows you to enter the costs into PM Compass and update Cobra directly. It has the added benefit of allowing the CAM or any user to enter the change request directly into PM Compass. It does; however, have the disadvantage of not updating the schedule. One example of this is the default Forecast Change Request. Deltek recommends creating this change management type by copying and modifying a default Forecast Change Request. For steps on how to do this, see Create a Workflow Type for Cobra-Only Changes. |
